EQUIP YOUR BOAT WITH A VHF RADIO
A VHF marine band radio allows you to communicate with the Coast Guard and other boat traffic. Use Channel 16 only for hailing and emergencies. Consider upgrading to a Digital Select Calling (DSC) equipped radio and obtaining a Marine Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) number, allowing you to transmit your location and other vital information with the press of a button.
